Screw Fixation of Capital Tibial Physis for Tibial Plateau Leveling Click on images to enlarge for viewing. Case Information: Female Akita, five months old, weight 51 pounds. Presented for ruptured left cranial cruciate ligament. Diagnosis: Owner reported that the dog was experiencing morning pain and diminished activity, duration of one month. Dog was presented with a left hindlimb lameness. Both the sit test and the stand test were positive on the left side. Physical examination showed a positive cranial drawer sign and a positive tibial compression test in both extension and flexion. Radiographs revealed an inflamed caudal meniscus. Complete rupture of the left cranial cruciate ligament. Treatment: Screw fixation of the cranial portion of the left capital tibial physis for leveling the tibial plateau. Recheck Examination: One year follow-up. Drawer test and tibial compression test in extension and flexion-normal. Palpation of the medial meniscus-normal. Radiographs show a free bone chip on the lateral condyle (femoral origin of the avulsed CCL). The tibial plateau leveled by the dog's own growth. Varus slope to the tibial plateau on the ventrodorsal view.
