TPLO Biradial Saw Blade

TPLO Biradial Saw Blade ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc.

18mm TPLO Biradial Saw Blade

The biradial saw blade is an exciting new concept in dome osteotomies.  The removal of bone with the biradial blade allows both sides of the osteotomy to match perfectly, creating the maximum surface area for contact and compression, thus optimizing healing potential with maximum stability.  Because of the congruency of the matched radii at the osteotomy, the tibial tubercle is supported.  This helps prevent fracture of the tibial tubercle by patellar tendon forces.  Blade Sharpener sold separately.  U.S. Patent No. 4,955,888

About the Biradial Saw Blade Cut

(U.S. Patent No. 4,955,888)

ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc.               ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc.

The biradial saw blade has the same radius on its inner edge and its outer edge.  Because the inner and outer diameter is matched, the two surfaces of the osteotomy will fit back together perfectly.  This bone to bone contact provides greater stability and promotes faster bone healing.

About A Crescentic Saw Blade Cut

ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc.               ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc.

A crescentic saw blade has an inner edge radius that is smaller than the outer edge radius.  Because the inner and outer diameter is not the same, the two surfaces of the osteotomy do not match.
ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc. ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc. ŠSlocum Enterprises, Inc.
Because the osteotomy on the inner edge of the crescentic blade has a smaller radius, no matter how one manipulates the osteotomy there will be areas without bone surface contact.  This is of special importance in osteotomies involving weight bearing bones, such as the TPLO, as it can leave the tibial tubercle unsupported, delay bone healing and contribute to implant loosening.
